Eastern witchhazels in the Jenkins Daylily and English Woodland
gardens are now in bloom.
Tropical water lilies in the pools in the Milles Sculpture Garden
are still showy.
Many roses in both the Gladney and Lehmann Rose Gardens are still
showy.
In the Shoenberg Temperate House, look for the beautiful white
Ladies tresses orchids (Spiranthes cernua var. odorata) blooming among
the carnivorous plants. The unusual flowers of the Yellow toad lily
(Trycrytis flava) can be seen blooming under the arbor.
In the Linnean house, smell the sweet aroma of the Fragrant olive
(Osmanthus fragrans). Look for a preview of the wintertime Camellia
show: a few fall-flowering species are blooming now.
A few Reblooming tall bearded iris are flowering in the Goodman Iris
Garden.
Asters and tall prairie grasses are among the many plants of
interest in the Lucy and Stanley Lopata Prairie Garden at the Kemper Center
for Home Gardening.
It's not unusual to see some sporadic flowering in the Lopata Azalea
and Rhododendron Garden collection at this time of year.
Spent flower heads of the Tardiva hydrangeas (Hydrangea paniculata
'Tardiva') growing in many locations on the grounds are still showy.
