Roses in both the Gladney and Lehmann Rose Gardens are at the peak of
spring bloom. Especially noteworthy is Rosa 'Doubloons', a
magnificent large-flowered climber arching over the arbor in the
Gladney Garden.
Iris in the Goodman Iris Garden are past peak bloom, but many are
still showy.
Rhododendrons are past peak bloom, but some are still showy.
Carnivorous plants are growing and eating heartily in the Shoenberg
Temperate House. Sundews (Drosera sp.) and Venus flytraps
(Dionaea muscipula) are blooming. Hydrangeas are particularly
showy this week, especially the lacecap hydrangea (Hydrangea
macrophylla 'Mariesii'). Also look for the beautiful bright orange
blossoms of the Pomegranate (Punica granatum 'Wonderful').
The rich fragrance of Confederate jasmine (Trachelospermum
jasminoides) wafts through the Linnean House. The bright yellow
flower spikes of the Canary Island broom (Genista canariensis)
surround the central water feature.
