Garden mums (Chrysanthemum spp.) are blooming in many locations
on the grounds.
Roses in both the Gladney and Lehmann Rose Gardens are still showy.
Tropical waterlilies are blooming in the pools in the Milles Sculpture
Garden. The fruity fragrance of the Victoria waterlilies perfumes the
evening air.
Annuals throughout the grounds are at their peak of summer growth. The
Elephant ear's (Colocasia spp.) in the Tropical Garden at the
Kemper Center for Home Gardening have attained a most impressive stature.
The showy blossoms of Red spider lilies (Lycoris radiata) are
poking their heads out of the windows of the Linnean House. New guinea
impatiens (Impatiens hawkeri 'Paradise Lavender Blue') and
Kangaroo Ferns (Microsorium diversifolium) are featured in
hanging baskets.
Bright red bottlebrush trees from Australia (Callistemon sp.) are
blooming in the Shoenberg Temperate House. Look for the bright purple
berries of the American beautyberry (Callicarpa americana).
