The Cutting Edge

Volume XV, Number 4, October 2008

News and Notes | Leaps and Bounds | Germane Literature | Season's Pick

CLUSIACEAE.  Clusia fructiangusta Cuatrec., known from every country between Nicaragua and Peru except Costa Rica, is certainly not the most astounding addition to the flora of the last-mentioned country.  Still, it is an exciting one for family specialist and Manual co-PI Barry Hammel, who notes that this sp. barely made it into his Flora de Nicaragua (2001) treatment, on the basis of an eleventh-hour collection by Ricardo Rueda (HULE) from the southeastern corner of his country.  The Costa Rican record, from the adjacent Llanura de San Carlos (Boca Tapada), was garnered three years ago by INB curator Armando Soto (#880), but has only now landed on Barry’s desk.
