Tree of medium size. Leaves pale grey-green, vary in form, linear-lanceolate on the long branches to broadly oblong on the short branches. Very spectacular. Disease resistant, also heat and drought resistant. Z 6. New.

Populus hyrcana Grossh. - Cottonwood

Caucasus (western Transcaucasus and Talysh). In forests, along streams.

Tree of medium size. Leaves rhomb-shaped or oblong, pale green, almost white, woolly. Very spectacular. Heat resistant. Z 6 (5). New.

Populus maximowiczii A. Henry - Cottonwood

Far East (Amur River basin, Sakhalin). Along streams in forests.

Tree 30 m with wide oblong crown. Leaves leathery, broadly oblong, slightly cordate, 5-10 cm x 5-7 cm. Very spectacular. Resistant to urban pollution and to diseases. Z 5 (4).

Populus pruinosa Schrenk - cottonwood

Central Asia (basin of the Syr-Darya and Amy-Darya rivers, Pamiro Alay, mountains of Turkmenia). On sandy, often saline soil, along streams in desert.

Trees of small or medium size, 4-7 m. Leaves entire, leathery, kidney shaped, with grey coating. Petiole cylindrical. Young leaves densely pubescent. Heat and salt resistant, very ornamental. Z 6 (5). New.

Populus tadshikistanica Kom. - cottonwood

Central Asia (Pamiro Alay). Along streams.

Tree of medium size with downy twigs and slightly weeping branches. Leaves 2.5-5.0 cm x 1.5-4.0 cm, broadly lanceolate, ovate or deltoid, acuminate, crenate. Tolerant of smoke pollution. Heat resistant. Z 5. New.
