Hardy trees and shrubs for special environmental conditions

Rosaceae

Rosa beggeriana Schrenk [R. operta Sumnev.], - Rose

Central Asia (Tarbagatay, Tien Shan). In clearings along streams and roads, and on hills.

Shrub up to 1.0-2.5 m. Leaves with 5-11 leaflets. Flowers white, large, 2-5 cm diam., numerous, in tight corymbs. Fruits globose, glabrous, red. Cold resistant. Z 4 (3).

Rosa fedtschenkoana Regel - Rose

Central Asia (Tien Shan, Pamiro Alay), the Himalayas, Mongolia, northern China and Afghanistan. On rocky slopes, in valleys.

Tall shrub 6 m. Leaves sea green, of 7-9 leaflets. Flowers 4 in inflorescence, 5.0-8.5 cm diam., white. Fruits bright coral-red, effectively set against the purple autumn foliage. Very attractive species. Z 6 (5).

Rosa platyacantha Schrenk - Rose

Central Asia (Tien Shan, Pamiro Alay) and the western China. In shrub thickets, on slopes.

A small shrub with erect branches about 1 m. Leaves bright green, 5-9-foliolate. Flowers small, yellow, 3-5 cm across. Fruits rounded, black-violet. Cold resistant. Z 5 (4). New.
