August 5 — Anita Rosamond
Jazz/pop singer and pianist
Anita was invited back this year after being rained out last year. A talented vocalist, pianist, and songwriter, she mixes together a blend of jazz, soulful R&B, and original compositions in her diverse array of musical styles. Anita is a much sought-after performer, having acclaimed performances at venues such as the Pageant, the Sheldon Concert Hall, and Jazz at the Bistro.

June 3 — Peter Martin
World-class jazz pianist
Peter Martin grew up in University City, and from an early age it was apparent that he was a gifted jazz pianist. Peter has gone on to perform all over the world and received a Grammy™ for his collaboration with Dianne Reeves on the soundtrack of the Hollywood film, “Good Night and Good Luck."

June 10 — St. Louis Stompers
Dixieland jazz at its best
This nationally recognized group returns to the Garden with their own brand of Dixieland jazz. Their performances are not only a rousing good time, but they weave into the show marvelous stories about the roots of this popular form of American heritage music.

June 17 — Scott Alberici
Wailin' jazz clarinet
Scott’s wonderful ability on the clarinet is well-known in St. Louis and far beyond. He has appeared at the Whitaker Music Festival with other musicians, but the release of his new solo CD was a perfect chance to present him as a headliner this season for the first time.

June 24 — Mosby Group
Progressive jazz guitarist
Todd Mosby’s innovative mastery of classical, jazz, and rock guitar styles extends even further into a fusion with the Indian sitar, making a musical language completely his own. He has created soundtracks for television, film, dance, and theater, as well as his unique and well-received ensemble recordings.

July 1 — Dizzy Atmosphere
Masters of swing
This St. Louis band embodies the whirling, incessant rhythms of the American Swing era. Appearing at our festival for the first time, they combine European and American jazz idioms with a hint of breathless gypsy bravado. The result is an evening of irresistable toe-tapping!

July 8 — Tony Simmons Band
Jazz, Motown, and funk
Tony performed here for the first time in 2008, and for the next several days the phone calls and e-mails flooded our office in waves. So we are bringing Tony back "by popular demand!" Tony is one of those wonders of music who has overcome blindness to become a master of the keyboard, transcending any limitations to achieve remarkable success in his field.

July 15 — Rogers, Nienhaus and Crawford
American folk-rock traditions
This trio of superb musicians recreates the folk-rock era of the 1960s and 70s with brilliant acoustic guitar playing and soaring three-part harmonies. Music from the age of great songwriters will have the audience singing along to every tune — a love-fest for a whole generation of fans.

July 22 — Farshid Etniko
Music for the new world
One of St. Louis’ most talked-about bands, Farshid Etniko draws on musical and cultural influences from many lands and beliefs. From the sands of Persia to the plains of the America, this unique musical experience transports us to a new world of peace and understanding.

July 29 — Ralph Butler
Public entertainer #1
Mr. Butler has been one of the most popular nightclub entertainers in St. Louis for over two decades. He returns to the Whitaker festival after a hiatus of several years to once more delight our loyal audience with his charming personality and a great evening of popular tunes.
