Deciduous azaleas and large-flowered rhododendrons are at peak bloom in
the Lopata Azalea and Rhododendron Garden. Evergreen azaleas are past peak,
but some are still very showy.
Tall bearded Iris are at peak bloom in the Goodman Iris Garden.
The long, silvery wisteria-like flowers of the Yellowwoods (Cladrastis
kentuckea) are showy and fragrant.
Peonies are becoming showy in the Japanese Garden.
Woodland wildflowers are blooming in the English Woodland Garden.
Shrub roses are beginning to bloom in the Lehmann Rose Garden.
Spanish bluebells are still showy in the Mausoleum Garden.
Spanish broom (Spartium junceum) fills the Shoenberg Temperate House
with its rich aroma. Mediterranean wildflowers, including brilliant red
poppies from Israel (Papaver carmelii), carpet the upstairs section.
The Venus flytraps (Dionaea muscipula) have woken from their winter
sleep and are growing fast, and lush new pitchers (Sarracenia sp.)
are emerging in the carnivorous plant bog.
Smell the heavenly aroma of jasmines (Jasminum polyanthemum and
Trachelospermum mandianum) in the Linnean House. Jasmine and chenile
(Acalypha pendula 'Firetails') are featured in the hanging baskets.
