The yellow autumn foliage of the hybrid hickories (Carya x laneyi) by
the dry streambed light up their corner of the Knolls.
The Hardshelled gourds (Lagenaria siceraria) hanging from the Grape Arbor
in the Kemper Center for Home Gardening are a sight to see!
Chrysanthemums in the Pring Memorial Garden in the Japanese Garden are showy.
Tropical water lilies are blooming in the Milles Sculpture Garden pools. Many
unusual aquatic plants are on display in the pools in the Swift Family Garden.
Roses in the Gladney and Lehmann Rose Gardens are in full seasonal bloom.
Look for the graceful white twisted spires of the Marsh ladies-tresses orchid
(Spiranthes odorata), blooming in the carnivorous plant bog in the
Shoenberg Temperate House. Brilliant red coleus (Solenostemon scutellaroides
'Kingswood Torch'), yellow daisies (Argyranthemum frutescens 'Maggie')
and ornamental peppers (Capsicum annuum 'Red Hot Chili') brighten the
tiled Moorish Garden.
The rich aroma of fragrant olive (Osmanthus fragrans) permeates the Linnean
House. Flowing out of the windows are the bright blue blossoms of the Cape leadwort
vine (Plumbago auriculata).
