The Linnean House is bursting with color and fragrance. The camellias are
at their peak of bloom, and are accompanied by dainty Fairy primroses
(Primula malacoides ‘Prima series’) and Cyclamen (Cyclamen
persicum ‘Concerto Cordelia). Enjoy the rich aroma of Fragrant olive
(Osmanthus fragrans).
Spring is in full bloom in the Shoenberg Temperate House. Brightly colored
tulips, hyacinths, daffodils and German primrose (Primula obconica
‘Libre series’) illuminate the tiled Moorish Garden.
Witchhazels flower on warm sunny days. Specimens of Ozark (Hamamelis
vernalis), Chinese (Hamamelis mollis), and Hybrid (Hamamelis
x intermedia) species and cultivars can be found in the English Woodland,
Jenkins Daylily and Japanese gardens.
A few early clumps of Giant snowdrops (Galanthus elwesii) can be
found blooming in the Mausoleum, English Woodland, Hosta Walk, and Kemper
Bird gardens on warm winter days.
Pansies may look a bit worn for the remainder of winter, but their
well-established root systems will push out vigorous new growth and
flowers as soon as conditions allow.
