lept-, lepto-, -leptus,-a,-um (adj.A): in Gk. comp., slender, thin, narrow, graceful, fine; (fungi) “thin, small” (S&D) [> Gk. leptos,-a,-on, peeled, cleaned of the husks: hence thin, fine, slender, delicate; in bad sense, thin, lean, meagre; slight, small. insignificant; fine, subtle (Liddell & Scott)]; cf. tenuis,-e (adj.B), thin, fine, slender (narrow); cf. ischn-, ischno- in Gk. comp.; in L. comp. tenui-; opp. of pachy-, q.v., thick, stout; see thin;

- leptanthus, slender-flowered; leptocarpus, slender-fruited; leptochilus, narrow-lipped; leptocladus, with slender shoots; leptoclemus, with slender branchlets (Charophyta); leptodermaticus, leptodermicus, leptodermus, thin-skinned, the wall of the cell thinner than the cavity; leptodictyus, with a fine network; leptodontus, with slender teeth; leptogrammus, with fine or narrow markings; leptolobus, with slender lobes; leptomerus, with slender, small or delicate parts; leptoneurus, fine-nerved.

Leptochloa, from Gk. leptos, slender and chloa, grass; “in allusion to the slender habit of the plants” Graminaceae (Paxton).

Leptodermis, from Gk. leptos, slender and derma, the skin; “the branches are covered with separating fibrous bark.” Cinchonaceae (Paxton).

Leptogramma, from Gk. leptos, slender, and gramma, a writing” in allusion to the fronds. Polypodiaceae (Paxton).

Leptomeria from Gk. leptos, slender, and meros, a part. Santalaceae (Paxton).

Leptomitus, from Gk. leptos, slender, and mitos, a thread. Confervaceae. “These plants are found floating in the water. They consist of very slender intergangled filaments, from the extreme fineness of which the generic name is contrived” (Paxton).

Leptosiphon, from Gk. leptos, slender, and siphon, a tube; “in allusion to the slenderness of the tube of the corolla. Polemoniaceae” (Paxton).

Leptospermum, from Gk. leptos, slender, and sperma, a seed; “in allusio to the small narrow seeds. Myrtaceae” (Paxton).

Leptostelma, from Gk. leptos, slender, and stelma, a crown. Asteraceae (Paxton).

Leptostroma, from Gk. leptos, thin, and stroma, a layer; in allusion to the thin consistence of the species. Uredinaceae” these species are found on the stalks of ferns, and on the leaves of some plants” (Paxton).

Leptotes, from Gk. leptos, slender; in allusion to the leaves. Orchidaceae” (Paxton).

Lepturus (also Lepuris) (Graminaceae. (Paxton).

Desmanthus leptolobus, with slender lobes; Fissidens leptophyllus, with slender leaves.

Leptolobium Vogel, a bean, with a slender pod.
