Autumn foliage remains colorful throughout the grounds. Maples in the
Japanese Garden are especially noteworthy.
Eastern witchhazels (Hamamelis virginiana) are now in bloom. The
large specimens in the Jenkins Daylily Garden are very fragrant on warm,
sunny days.
Many roses in the Gladney and Lehmann Rose Gardens are still showy.
The rich colors of autumn paint the walled Moorish garden in the Shoenberg
Temperate House. The fuzzy orange flowers of Lion's ear (Leonotis
leonurus) are complemented by deep red coleus (Solenostemon
scuttelariodes 'Oxblood').
The earliest of the camellias are blooming in the Linnean House, giving a
hint of the glory to come this winter. They are accompanied by the sweet
aroma of the Fragrant olive trees (Osmanthus fragrans). Double
impatiens (Impatiens walleriana 'Fiesta Salmon Sunrise') and camellias
(Camellia sasanqua 'Bonanza' and 'Sho-no-sakie') are featured in the
hanging baskets.
