The Cutting Edge

Volume XXIX, Number 1, January, 2022

News and Notes | Leaps and Bounds | Germane Literature | Season's Pick | Global Range Extensions

About the best we can do here is refer readers to the "News and Notes" column of the current issue of this rag, under "Nicoya Windfall," where numerous new records for the Península de Nicoya peninsula are reported. Other than that, one feeble note might be made based on a recent collection made by the far less itinerant Manual co-PI Barry Hammel:

ARACEAE. Monstera punctulata (Schott) Schott ex Engl. has not been reported, to our knowledge, from the Valle Central (except in cultivation). That is, not until recently, when Hammel stumbled onto a small population of it at the edge of a coffee plantation—the same spot, just a few hundred meters from his house, where he found and took pictures of Matelea pseudobarbata (Pittier) Woodson (Apocynaceae) several years ago [see The Cutting Edge 15(3): 1, Jul. 2008]. This find has already been incorporated into the online version of the Manual, where images of the plant (as yet not in flower), vouchered by Hammel 27869, have been posted.
