-styled, -stylous (Eng.adj. suffixes); supported by a stalk, column, hypha: in both L. and Gk. comp. styl-, stylo-; -stylicus,-a,-um (adj.A); -stylus,-a,-um (adj.A);

- L.: bistylus, with two styles; multistylus, with many styles; paucistylus, with few styles;

- Gk.: distylus, with two styles; dasystylus, with shaggy styles; eriostylus, with woolly styles; haematostylus, with blood-red styles; oligostylus, with few styles; lasiostylus, with woolly styles; pentastylus, with five styles; polystylus, with many styles;

- Gk. Stylosanthes, Pencil-flower, > Gk. stylos, a column, and anthos, a flower, “from the stalk-like calyx tube” (Fernald 1950; note that the common name seems to refer to the style as an implement of writing); Stylophorum, Celandine poppy, > Gk. stylos, style + phoros, bearing; “with reference to the long columnar style” (Stearn 1996).

NOTE: in Gk. comp. -stylis,-idis (s.f.III) in epithets are nouns in apposition to the generic name, not adjectives; see –stylis,-idis (s.f.III) for declension];

- distylis, with two styles; haematostylis, with blood-red styles; oligostylis, with few styles; rhopalostylis, with club-shaped style.

NOTE: lacking a style is astylicus,-a,-um (adj.A), astylus,-a,-um (adj.A); also in Gk. comp. -gynus refers to -styled or -carpeled: digynus, with two carpels; pentagynus, 5-styled; see -gynus. An alternative in Latin is -stylosus: sexstylosus, 6-styled (especially if the styles are large or conspicuous).
