A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

-vorus,-a,-um (adj.A): in L. comp. devouring, consuming, feeding upon, [> L. voro,-avi,-atum, 1. to swallow whole, devour, eat greedily, to overwhelm, destroy]; in Gk. comp. -phagus,-a,-um (adj.A), q.v.;

- amphivorus, eating both animal and vegetable matter; carotivorus, carrot-eater; fungivorus, fungus- or mushroom-eating; granivorus, grain- or seed-eating; insectivorus, consuming insects; lignivorus, wood-destrer, as of fungi; nectarivorus, feeding on nectar (as insects); omnivorus, eating all things; pigmentivorus, consuming pigments, destroying paint.

- cactivorus, feeding upon cacti. - carnivorus,-a,-um (adj.A), carnivorus, flesh-eating, feeding on flesh; “applied to those plants which digest insects” (Jackson).

- multivorus,-a,-um (adj.A): consuming many kinds of substances.

- vermivorus,-a,-um (adj.A): (in fungi) “living upon, or devouring, worms, as the Zoopagaceae” (S&D) [> L. vermis, ‘an earth-worm’ + vorare, to devour].

Acidiphilium multivorum (fungus)

- organovorus,-a,-um (adj.A): consuming organic compounds; devouring organs.

Acidiphilium organovorum (fungus)

The fungi Erwinia carotovora (Jones) Holland, carrot-eater; Kabatiella caulivora, stem-eating; Phytophthora kalmivora, Kalmia-eater; Erwinia amylovora, responsible for the fire blight of fruit trees.

Carnivora, neuter pl. of Carnivorum, an order of eutherian mammals, with teeth and other organs adapted to suit their carnivorous habit. A carnivore, as an English substantive noun, on analogy with serpent (serpens,-entis, q.v.) would be animal,-is (s.n.III) carnivorum; a herbivore would be animal,-is (s.n.III) herbivorum; insectivore: animal,-is (s.n.III) insectivorum; see Order.

NOTE: the gen. plural is insectivor-orum, insectivororum;
