A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

Apelta,-ae (s.f.I): presumed to be a noun in apposition (as no epithets in apeltus or apeltum found): lacking a pelta,-ae (s.f.I), q.v., lacking a peltate shield; lacking an indusium in ferns [> Gk. a-, without + pelta,-ae (s.f.I) a round shield]; see pelta,-ae (s.f.I).

Mallotus apelta = Ricinus apelta (Euphorbiaceae), a species whose flowers have no petals.

Thelypteris sect. Apelta, fern species with no indusium.

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
