A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Coris,-idis (s.f.III), abl.sg. Core or Coride: “A Greek name, used by Dioscorides. Primulaceae. (Paxton) [= Coris L. Species Plantarum 1:177. 1753] [> L. coris,-is (s.f.III), or coridis (s.f.III) = Gk. koris, a plant, a species of hypericon; also the seed of it (Lewis & Short); in Gk. with three possible meanings: 1. A bug, Cimex lenticularis; a kind of fish; a kind of St. John’s wort, Hypericum empetrifolium (Liddell & Scott)].

coris [lower case] “specific epithet for a St. John’s Wort (Hypericum), from a similarity to Coris” (Stearn 1996): Hypericum coris

coridifolius,-a,-um (adj.A): “with leaves like Coris, a plant of no garden interest” (Stearn 1996) [derived from coris,-idis].

coriophyllus,-a,-um (adj.A): with leaves like Coris” (Stearn 1996) [derived from coris,-is].

Corispermum,-i (s.n.II), Linn. From koris, a bug, or tick, and sperma, a seed. Chenopodiaceae. (Paxton).
