A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Fautor,-oris (s.m.III), abl. sg. fautore, contraction of favitor: a promoter, patron; “a favorer, furtherer, promoter; maintainer, patron (with gen.), with dative, abl.absol.” (Lewis & Short) [> L. faveo; see favens,-entis (part.B);

- [Dendrobium mortii] Speciem imperfecte cognitam, foliis autem valde distinctam et systematice D. Milligani approximandam tribuí clariss. Mort, horticulturae in Nova Austro-Cambria praestanti fautori (F. Mueller), a species imperfectly known, however, strongly differentiated by the leaves and systematically to be close to D. Milligani I bestow on the eminent Mort, distinguished patron of horticulture in Nova Austro-Cambria [Nova Cambria Australis, New South Wales, Australia].

- Buccaferrea ab Illustrissimo Domino Comite Camillo Antonio Buccaferro Patritio, ac Senatore Bononiensi; omnium bonarum artium cultore, & fautore eximio (Tourn.), [the genus] Buccaferrea from the Most Celebrated Lord Count Camillo Antonio Buccaferro Patritio [Patrician?], and senator of Bologne; supporter and distinguished patron of all the good [i.e. liberal] arts.

- [Leguminosae; Barklya] Genus Morae forsan proximum, summa cum veneratione dicatum praenobili Henrico Barkly, ordinis balnei equiti, coloniae Victoriae gubernatori, fautori meo semper benignissimo (F.Mueller), the genus, perhaps the closest to Mora [i.e. blackberry or mulberry], has been dedicated with the highest respect to the most noble Henry Barkley, knight of the Order of the Bath, governor [dat.sg.] of the Victoria colony, always my most kind patron.
