- [Bryum Phyllitidis folio rugoso] Terræ aliquousque immerguntur caules, quibus tomentum adnascitur ex ferrugineo nigricans, a limo ægre liberandum (Dill.), the stems are covered up in soil to a certain point [i.e. to some extent], upon which the tomentum grows blackish to ferrugineous [i.e. rusty-red], to be freed with difficulty from the mud.

Limosella L. Mudwort, “Name a diminutive of limus, mud, Linnaeus explaining it as 'a limo natali dicte [sic], called from its native mud' (Fernald 1950).

NOTE: there is an adjective limus,-a,-um (adj.A): sidelong, askew, aslant, askance; to look sideways, look askance; the ‘limi Di’ were the guardian gods of obliquities (Lewis & Short); Limus,-i (s.m.II) was the god of oblique glances.

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
