Praerupta,-ae (s.f.I), abl. sg. praerupta: steep or rugged places, cliffs, precipices; broken land or country, rough land [> L. praerumpo,-rupi,-ruptum 3., to break off, tear off in front > prae-, before, in front, rumpo, rupi, ruptum “to break, burst, tear, rend, rupture; burst in pieces, burst through];

- in praeruptis ad rupes, on cliffs on rocks.

NOTE: Schimper indicated he himself collected it ‘most beautifully’ where Swartz collected it on the abandoned ruins of the “Grotto” waterworks in the royal garden Hagaparken, on the western shore of the Brunnsviken lake just north of central Stockholm].

- solum amat limosum. Ericetorum incola, et horum praeprimis sicciora praerupta loca, ad vias cauas, scrobesque (Hedw.), it loves muddy soil. An inhabitant of Heathlands, and especially of these, the more arid rugged [i.e. broken] places, on excavated roads [i.e. road beds] and ditches.
