A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Saint, “one officially recognized or acknowledged as preeminent for consecration, holiness, and piety esp. through canonization by one of the branches of the Christian church” (WIII): divus,-i (s.m.II), abl.sg. divo; diva,-ae (s.f.I): a god, a goddess, a deity; “a saint” (Stetten); sanctus,-i (s.m.II), q.v., abl.sg. sancto; sancta,-ae (s.f.I), q.v.: (as a noun): “canonized saint” (Stelten); see sanctus,-a,-um (part.A).

NOTE: D. (abbr.), q.v. = saint, divus,-i (s.m.II), q.v., or diva,-ae (s.f.I), q.v., a sanctified man or woman, a saint;

- Сaesar Ricasolus Flor. D. Stephani Eques (Mich.), Caesar Ricasolus Florentinus Knight of Saint [D. = Divi, gen.sg.] Stephan.

NOTE: S. (abbr.), q.v. = saint.

- extra portam Divi Міniatis inter muscos tempore praedicto, & in moeniorum urbis nostrae rimis, ante horrea in loco dicto l’Uccello etiam erumpit (Mich.), beyond the gate of Saint Miniatus among mosses in the time already mentioned, and in the cracks in the (fortified) walls of our city [i.e. Florence], before the granary in the place called ‘l’Uccello’ it also sprouts out.

NOTE: Saint Fridianus, bishop of Lucca [Lat. Luca]; the Basilica di San Frediano].

NOTE: Porta Romana = Porta San Pier Gattolino = Porta Romana.
