A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Summitas,-atis (s.f.III), abl. sg. summitate: the highest part, the height, top. summit; "(with reference to vertical extent) height, altitude, highness, tallness; highest part or point, summit, top; top (part.); extremity, tip, end, furthest point); (of a plant) shoot; (of space, area, room etc.) end; height, culmination, highest pitch; (in rank, status, authority, etc.) supreme highness; main chief, or key point” (Medieval British Latin) [> L. summitas,-atis (s.f.III) “(philosophy) a culminating state; 2. (geometry) a surface" (Glare)];

- placidioribus locis septem pedibus summitas vitis insurgit, the summit of the vine rises up up to seven feet in the more peaceful [i.e. undisturbed] places.

- deum summitatem omnium summorum obtinentem, a god occupying the highest part of all the highest places. - (moss) FLOS masculus in summitate trunci disciformis (Hedw.), the male flower at the summit of the trunk [i.e. the lower, unbranched portion of the stem] disc-shaped. - summitas cauliculi florens, foliis Perichaetii pro parte remotis, pro conspectu folliculorum masculorum; ad augmentum I (Hedwig; caption of Tabula IV.), the summit of the flowering stalk, partly remote, with the leaves of the perichaetium in part remote, for the appearance of the male follicles [i.e. antheridia], at a magnitude of one.
