A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Territory (Eng. noun): ager, gen. sing. agri (s.m.II), abl. sg. agro, land in cultivation; a territory, district, region; publicum,-i (s.n.II), abl. sg. publico, 'the property of the state, public territory;’ provincia,-ae (s.f.I), a province, district; ‘a province, “i.e. a territory out of Italy, acquired by the Romans (chiefly by conquest), and brought under Roman government” (Lewis & Short), a division of a kingdom or empire, such as Judaea under the Romans;’ terra,-ae (s.f.I), q.v., ‘land, territory, region;’ territorium,-ii (s.n.II), abl. sg. territorio, ‘land around a town, territory, district;’ see region;

- nullam Commelynearum stirpem in Australia Felice et territorio coloniae South-Australia hucusque reperimus (F. Mueller), we find no plant of the Commelyneae in Australia and in the territory of the colony of South-Australia up to now.

- publicum Canadianum, Canadian territory; publicum Sinicum, Chinese territory.

- plerae species Europam australem, Africam borealem, Syriam, Asiam Minorem, et Persiam habitant, paucae provincias finitimas Indiae, attingunt (B&H), most species inhabit southern Europe, northern Africa, Syria, Asia Minor and Persia, a few reach the territories bordering India.

- Java in agro Bogoriensi ad trunc. Arcugae sacchariferae (C. Mueller), Java in the Bogoriensis Region on the trunk of Arcuga saccharifera.

- [Riccia minima] in Juguli Plebania per sylvam caeduam, Castaneis consitam Ascetriarum Divi Felicis, & alibi in eodem territorio (Mich.), in Plebania Juguli throughout the cutting-wood [coppice-wood], planted to the Castaneae of the nuns of Saint Felix, and elsewhere in the same region.

Ager Praetutianus: the Abruzzi region in middle Italy.
