A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

Vicus,-i (s.m.II), abl.sg. vico: a quarter or district of a town, a street; a village, hamlet;

- inter Swafham et Burwel vicos, between the villages of Swaffham and Burwell (Stearn in Ray).

- in vico vulgo vocato Fleetstreet, on the street commonly called Fleetstreet.

- oppida numero ad duodecim, vicos ad quadrigentos, the towns in number to 12, the districts to 400.

- ad pontem supra vicum Doloho, truncos Hippophaes obducens, on the bridge above Doloho village, covering the trunks of Hippophae [Elaeagnaceae].

NOTE: urbs is for city, oppidum or municipium is for a town; pagus and vicus for a village or hamlet (i.e. small town), although pagus can also mean the larger district or province.

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
