A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Zephyrus,-i (s.m.II), abl. sg. zephyro [> Gk. zephyros (s.m.I), the west wind, in Latin Favonius (Liddell & Scott); opp. Eurus,-i (s.m.II), abl.sg. Euro, the east wind.

Favonius,-ii (s.m.II), q.v., abl.sg. favonio: the west wind, also called Zephyrus,-i (s.m.II), which blew at the commencement of spring, and promoted vegetation; see wind (Eng.noun).

Zephyranthes Herb., the Zephyr-Lily, > Gk. zephyros, west [wind], and anthos, flower (Fernald 1950), ‘because native of the Western hemisphere” (Stearn 1996); the genus name of the Atamasco-Lily, Zephyranthes Atamasco (L.) Herb. The epithet is an Aboriginal name (Fernald 1950).
