A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
acicular: acicularis,-e (adj.B), slenderly needle-shaped, narrow and stiff; “1. slender or needle-shaped, 2. a phase of Bacterium Termo, Cohn, when it becomes needle-shaped” (Jackson); “= aciformis,-e (adj.B), aciform” (Jackson); see acerose;

- rostrum operculi aciculare, rostrum of the operculum acicular.

- stipite vel cystidio aciculari, with the stipe or cystidium acicular.

- stipulis acicularibus, with acicular stipules.

- folia sparsa v. fasciculata, parva, rigida, saepe acicularia (B&H), leaves sparse or fasciculate, few, rigid, often needle-shaped.

- folia sparsa, patentia, acicularia, triquetra, epunctata (B&H), leaves sparse, spreading, needle-shaped, three-angled, lacking dots.

- folia acicularia, erecta, incurva, apice callosa, (B&H), the leaves acicular [i.e. narrow and stiff], incurved, at the apex callous.

Crystallum aciculare (adj.B), abl.sg. crystallo aciculari: “needle-shaped crystal(s)” (Jackson).

Fibra acicularis (adj.B), nom. pl. fibrae aciculares: “fibrous cells or raphidines, occurring in Acanthaceae” (Jackson); see raphid.
