A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

adnexus,-a,-um (part.A), annexus,-a,-um (part.A): “[as adnexus] same as adnatus” (Lindley); “[as annexus] adhering to the face of anything” (Lindley); adnexed, used of gills or tubes which are narrowly (not widely) joined to the stipe (Ainsworth & Bisby), opposite of adnate, or which just reach the stem (Stearn); reaching to the stem but not attached to it, used of the gills of some agarics (WIII) [> L. adnexus,-a,-um (part.A): “physically attached, linked, joined, contiguous (to); associated with, concerned with” (Glare) > adnecto,-xui,-xum, 3. “to tie on, fasten, attach; to connect causally, relate” (Glare)]; cf. adherent;

- lamellae adnexae vel subliberae, lamellae adnexed or somewhat free.

- pileo planiusculo carnoso glabro rufo, lamellis confertis emarginato - adnexis aquose albidis, with the pileus somewhat more flat, fleshy, glabrous, red, with the lamellae compact, shallowly notched-adnexed, watery whitish.

- lamellae versus stipitem truncatae, vix adnexae, latitudine longitudinem aequante subquadratae vel rhombeae (S&A), the lamellae truncate toward the stipe, scarcely adnexed [i.e. narrowly joined to the stipe] with the width equalling the length, somewhat quadrate or rhombic [i.e. diamond-shaped].

- lamellae versus stipitem truncatae, vix adnexae, latitudine longitudinem aequante subquadratae vel rhombeae, the lamellae towards the stipe truncate, scarcely adnexed, with the latitude equalling the longitude, subquadrate or rhombic.

- lamellae adnexae sed non decurrentes, ex albo demum saturate carneae, lamellae adnexed but not decurrent, from white ultimately deeply flesh-colored [carnelian].

- lamellae adnexae angustae subdistinctae subflexuosae concolores, sed dilutiores, the lamellae adnexed, narrow, somewhat separated, somewhat flexuose, the same color, but more dilute.

- pileo carnoso tenuiusculo convexo - plano subviscoso e livido fuscescente, lamellis subconfertis emarginato-adnexis (S&A), with the pileus fleshy, comewhat thin, convex-flat, somewhat viscous growing brownish-black from bright, with the lamellae somewhat crowded, notched-adnexed.

NOTE: to compare with adnatus,-a,-um (part.A).

emarginato-adnexus,-a,-um (part.A):

- [fungus] Amanita porphyria pileo carnoso tenuiusculo convexo-plano subviscoso e livido fuscescente, lamellis subconfertis emarginato-adnexis (S&A), Amanita porphyria with a fleshy pileus, somewhat thin, convex-flattened, slightly viscous, from a leaden [i.e. grayed]-purple [color] to darkish brown, with the lamellae somewhat close together, emarginate- [i.e. with a sudden curve or notch at point of attachment to stipe]-adnexed [i.e. just (narrowly) reaching the stem].

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
