A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Aestus,-us (s.m.IV), acc.sg. aestum, dat. sg. aestui, abl. sg. aestu: an undulating, boiling, waving, tossing; a waving, heaving, billowy motion; heat, especially of the atmosphere, hot weather; a hot period or season, summer; a periodic ebb and flow: the tide, q.v.; a current of water, a flood; tidal motion; see unda,-ae (s.f.I);

- in lacubus minuente aestu relictis, in pools left at the ebbing of the tide.

- [Codiolum] Habitat in insula Helgoland, ad trabes aestu marino irroratos (Braun), it grows on the island Helgoland, on pieces of lumber[i.e. driftwood] splashed by marine billows.
