arenarius,-a,-um (adj.A): growing on sand or in sandy places, sandy; = arenaceus,-a,-um (adj.A), q.v.; see sandy;

- [moss] in terra lutoso-arenaria prope Wertheimium (C.Muell.), on earth muddy-sandy near Wertheimium.

- saxum,-i (s.n.II) arenarium, abl.sg. saxo arenario: sandstone.

- lapis,-idis (s.m.III) arenarius, abl.sg. lapide arenario: sandstone, q.v.

- supra saxa primitivae formationis et arenaria durissima in sylvaticis montosis totius Europae (Nyl.), above rocks of primitive [i.e. archaic, primordial] formation and the hardest sandstone in forested mountainous places of the whole of Europe.

- in solo argilloso arenario per totam orbem terrarum e planitiebus in regiones alpinas ascendentes (C. Muell.), in clay, sandy soil through the entire globe of lands [i.e. world] from the plains ascending into alpine regions.

arenario-silaceus,-a,-um (adj.A): a sand-colored yellowish-brown;

- [lichen] ad cortices et ligna variarum arborum viget, semelque mihi obvium fuit saxicolum ecrustaceum ad saxa arenario-silacea sylvae Fontainebleau in regione Parisiensi (Nyl.), it florishes on the barks and woods of various trees, and was once encountered saxicolous, lacking a thallus on sand-colored yellowish-brown [i.e. ochre] stones of the Fontainebleau forest in the region of Paris.

limoso-arenarius,-a,-um (adj.A) = limoso-arenosus,-a,-um (adj.A): muddy or silty sand, sand mixed with mud; see limosus,-a,-um (adj.A);

- in cavernis et locis occultis aliis limoso-arenariis vel arenariis per fere totam Europam rarius (C. Muell.), in caves and hidden places in other silty-sandy or sandy ones more sparsely throughout all Europe.

lutoso-arenarius,-a,-um (adj.A) = lutoso-arenosus,-a,-um (adj.A): muddy sand; sand mixed with clay or mud; see lutosus,-a,-um (adj.A);

- in terra lutoso-arenaria (C. Muell), on muddy, sandy earth.

- [moss] in pratis humidis et uliginosis, ad rivulorum margines, praecipue in solo lutoso-arenoso Europae occidentalis et borealis (C. Muell.), in moist and swampy meadows, on the margins [i.e. banks] of streams, especially in muddy-sandy soil of western Europe.

Arenaria,-ae (s.f.I) (s.c. fodina): a sand-pit; see mine.

Arenaria,-ae (s.f.I), genus, from LL harenaria, fem. of harenarius, arenarius, of sand (WIII); “referring to the sandy situation in which most of the species are found. Alsinaceae. (Paxton)
