A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
ash-leaved, with leaves resembling species in the genus Fraxinus (Ash trees): fraxinifolius,-a,-um (adj.A).

Evodia fraxinifolia
Ash tree: fraxinus,-i (s.f.II), q.v., abl. sg. fraxino, “the classical Latin name. Oleaceae” (Stearn 1996).

Fraxinus (s.m.II) L.; F. americana; F. tomentosa.

Fraxinetum,-i (s.n.II), abl. sg. fraxineto: “an association of ash-trees” (Jackson).

NOTE: other species called “Ash” include “any of numerous Australian trees of various genera having tough strong wood” (WIII).

Various species of Eucalyptus: E. gigantea, Alpine Ash; E. oreades, Blue Mountain Ash; various species of Zanthoxylum: Z. Clava-Herculis, Prickly Ash, Hercules Club; Z, piperitum, Japanese Prickly Ash, Z. flavum, Yellowheart Prickly Ash; Aralia spinosa, Prickly Ash.
Ash tree, pertaining to: fraxineus,-a,-um (adj.A), q.v.;

- praeter ramos fraxineos in alneis quoque habitat, sed parcior, aliquoties inventa vere, autumno (S&A), in addition to the branches of Fraxinus, it dwells also on Alnus ones, but more sparse, at different times encountered in spring, in autumn.

 

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
