A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

Awl (Eng. word), “a pointed instrument for marking surfaces or piercing small holes (as in leather or wood” (WIII): subula,-ae (s.f.I), abl. sg. subula.
awl-shaped, “linear, very narrow, tapering to a very fine point from a broadish base” (Lindley); “tapering gradually upward from the base to a slender or rigid point” (Fernald 1950): subulatus,-a,-um (adj.A), q.v., subuliformis,-e (adj.B); cf. needle-shaped.

NOTE: lesiniformis,-e (adj.B), q.v., is said to be “awl-shaped” by Stearn (1983).

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
