A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
bombycinus,-a,-um (adj.A): silky, “feeling like silk; this term is not applied to hairiness of any sort” (Lindley); (fungi) “silky; feeling as smooth as silk” (S&D) [> L. bombycinus,-a,-um (adj.A) > Gk. bombyx,-ycis (s. m/f III), silkworm, silk]; syn. sericeus,-a,-um (adj.A), q.v.;

- fungus bombycinus murini coloris, e fimo felino, tenuissìmis capillis (Dill.), a silky-haired fungus of a mousy (gray)-color, from cat excrement, with very delicate hairs.

Volvariella bombycina, a mushroom with a silky fibrous, white or light yellow cap whose margin is fringed with fine hairs.
