A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Brush-wood, place full of: virgetum,-i (s.n.II), abl. sg. virgeto; virgulta,-orum (pl.n.II), abl.pl. virgultis: contraction of virguletum, bush, thicket, copse, scrub, shrubbery, undergrowth, brushwood, a place of low shrubby vegetation; see scrub; see thicket;

- crescunt varr. omnes tres ad stipites virgultave semiputria humentia acervata tecta, praesertim Vitem (S&A), all three varieties grow on covered stalks and moist accumulated semi-rotted undergrowth, especially Vitis [i.e. ‘grape’].

- nunc in glandibus quercinis, nunc ad virgulta ramosque locis humidis projectos (etc.) haud infrequens (S&A), not infrequent sometimes on Oak acorns, somtimes on the fallen brushwood and branches in moist places.

covered with brush, brushwood or scrub: virgultus,-a,-um (adj.A);

- in valle virgulta nemorosaque, in a valley full of brushwood and woodlands.
