calyptriform, calyptrimorphous, shaped like a conical cap, “shaped like a calyptra, or extinguisher; as the calyx of Eucalyptus” (Lindley); “shaped like an extinguisher” (Jackson); (in fungi) “shaped like a lid or candle extinguisher” (S&D); shaped like a cap: calyptriformis,-e (adj.B), calyptrimorphus,-a,-um (adj.A), [less correctly] calyptraeformis,-e (adj.B);

- Calyptridium [> Gk. calyptra + dim. -idion] petala (3-4? [sic]) tenuissima, in corollam 3-dentatam calyptraeformem coalita (B&H), the petals (3-4?), very thin, fused into a 3-toothed, hood-shaped corolla.

- seminum integumentum internum ad chalazam incrassatum et nigrum fere calyptraeforme vidimus in Fugosia phlomidifolia, et F. australi (B&H), we observed the internal integument of the seeds thickened to the chalaza and black, almost calyptriform [i.e. shaped like a conical cap] in Fugosia phlomidifolia and F. australis.

- [Order MARCGRAVIACEAE.] corolla hypogyna, nunc monopetala calyptraeformis integra aut apice lacera, nunc 5-petala, basi post inflorescentiam circumscissa et caduca (DeCandolle), the corolla hypogynous, sometimes monopetalous, calyptriform [i.e. cap-like] entire or lacerate at the apex, sometimes 5-petaled, at the base after the flowering time circumscissle and caducous [i.e. falling early or easily].

- [Vitis] petala 5 apice cohaerentia et instar calyptrae(DeCandolle), petals 5, coherent [i.e. in contact] at the apex and like a calyptra [i.e. a cap].

NOTE: Extinguisher (Eng. noun): “a hollow, conical cap typically of metal that is used for extinguishing the flame of a candle, lamp, or torch” (WIII).

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
