A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
cinctus,-a,-um (part.A): encircled, girdled, enclosed, belted, banded (encircled by a band or bands), surrounded + e, ex and abl.; syn circumdatus,-a,-um (part.A); “used of albumen when surrounded by an annular embryo” (Jackson; “girdled; girt around” (Stearn 1996)) [> L. cingo, cinxi, cinctum 3., to surround, encircle, girdle, go round in a circle]; see surrounded;

- fungus lamellis murinis, pediculo pariter albo, gemino, & perаngusto anulo [sic] cincto (Mich.), a fungus with the lamellae mouse-colored [i.e. pale brownish-gray], with the pedicel uniformly white, paired, and encircled with a very narrow annulus.

- maculae margine atropurpureo cinctae, spots encircled with a dark purple margin.

- flores sessiles, involucro communi e bracteis uniseriatis liberis concretisve cincti (B&H), flowers sessile, with a common involucre enclosed by uniseriate bracts free or grown together.

- genitalia petalis distinctis intra calycem cincta stipata v. suffulta (B&H), genitalia by distinct petals within the calyx encircled, closely enclosed or subtended.

- semen arillo cupulaeformi denticulato cinctum (B&H), seed encircled by a cupuliform, denticulate aril.

- [Sphaeria; fungus] laciniis epidermidis totidem triangulis subaequalibus stellatim fissis ac retroflexis quasi corona cincta (S&A), with the laciniae of the epidermis just as many triangular as nearly equal, stellately split and bent backwards as if encircled by a crown.

- (moss) antheridia foliis 1 —3 perigonialibus cinctae (Mueller), the antheridia girdled [i.e. surrounded] by 1-3 perigonial leaves.

Cinctus,-us (s.m.IV), abl. sg. cinctu; also cinctum,-i (s.n.II), abl. sg. cincto: a girdle, belt, a tucking in of the toga around the middle.
