consistens,-entis (part.B): persisting [> L. consisto,-stiti,-stitum, 3, to place one’s self anywhere, to stand still, stand, halt, stop; to set, become hard or solid (as from cold); to take one’s place, take position, assume a place or attitude; to halt, make a halt; to rest, remain; to be, exist; to take place, occur, happen (after Lewis & Short)] to consist in, or of; to depend on (with ex, in + abl; + abl. only)];

[NOTE: not consto,-stiti,-statum 3.]

- [lichen] thallus osseo-albidus simplex (raro tantum unum alterumve emittens), e podetiis consistens scyphophoris scyphis e centro repetito-proliferis (Nyl.) the thallus bone-white, simple [i.e. unbranched] (rarely sending out only one or two), consisting of scyphophoric [i.e. scyphus bearing] podetia, with the scyphi repeatedly proliferating from the center.

“to set, congeal, become hard or solid, as with cold”

- frigore constitit, it has become hard with the cold: also unda (wave), sanguis (blood), alvus (the stomach; the womb);

“to rest; retain, stand, to remain firm, to continue, endure, PERSIST,” to be persistent.

persistent, persisting, remaining (Eng. adjj.): “not falling off, but remaining green until the part which bears it is wholly matured; as the leaves of Evergreen plants” (Lindley).

- folia consistentia (Swartz), the leaves persistent.

- folia radicalia longe petiolata, oblonga, integra, nervis parallelis lineata, erecta, consistentia, glaberrima (Swartz), basal leaves long-petiolate, oblong, entire, lined with parallel nerves, erect, persistent, completely entire.

- folia ramorum disticha, alterna, lanceolata l. ovato-lanceolata, constistentia, decidua, glabra (Swartz), leaves of the branches distichous, alternate, lanceolate or [l. = vel, ‘or’] ovate-lanceolate, persistent, deciduous, glabrous.

- Folia brevius petiolata, pendula, basi cuneata, integra, nervosa, venosa, rugosa, consistentia (Swartz), leaves rather shortly petiolata, pendulous, cuneate at the base, entire, with visible nerves and veins [i.e. primary and secondary conducting tissue], rugose, persistent.
