A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

crassescens,-entis (part.B): a thickening, growing thick, dense, large or fat [> L. crassesco,-ere, to grow thick, to thicken, to grow dense or hard, to grow large or fat (Lewis & Short)];

crassescit: third-person singular present active indicative; [he/she] it thickens, swells;

- [fungi] maculae istae aetate progrediente fuscescentes simulque paullatim crassescentes (S&A), those spots (or patches) with progressing age grow fuscescent [i.e. blackish-brown] and at the same time grow gradually thick [or dense].

- RHABARBARUM est plantae genus, flore monopetalo, ex cujus fundo pistillum surgit, quod deindè crassèscit,semine foetum triangulari (Tourn.), rhabarbarum is a kind of plant with a monopetalous [i.e. with petals joined by their edges] flower: the pistil stands up from its base, which then grows thick, filled with a triangular seed.

Hieracium crassescens

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
