A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
cuspidate, provided with a point; ending abruptly in a stout, often rigid point, as a toothlike cusp, longer than apiculate or mucronate, but shorter than subulate; “tapering gradually into a rigid point; also abruptly acuminate, as the leaflets of many Rubi [Rubus]” (Lindley); “tipped with a cusp” (Jackson); (in mosses) “ending abruptly in a stout, rigid point” (Magill 1990): cuspidatus,-a,-um (part.A) [> L. cuspido, -atum 1. to make pointed (as an arrow or spear)]; cf. apiculatus,-a,-um (adj.A), mucronatus,-a,-um (adj.A), subulatus,-a,-um (adj.A);

- brevicuspicatus,-a,-um (adj.A), with a short cusp; longicuspidatus,-a,-um (with a long cusp.

- [moss] foliis cuspidatis v. piliferis, with the leaves cuspidate or bearing a hair [i.e. a hair-point].

- [Resedaceae] Ovarium sessile, 4-gonum, 4-cuspidatum (B&H), ovary sessile, 4-angled, with 4 cusps.

cuspidato-apiculatis: apiculate into a cusp [i.e. a longer (stout) point];

cuspidato-mucronatus,-a,-um (adj.A): with a mucro (short point) to a cusp (i.e a longer point);

- bracteolis calycis tubo brevioribus, vaginantibus, cuspidato-mucronatis (F. Muell.), with the bracteoles of the calyx shorter than the tube, sheathing, cuspidate-mucronate [i.e. with a greater or lesser short stout point].
