desinens,-entis (part.B): ending, stopping, ceasing + in + acc., ending in, terminating in [> L. desino,-sii 4.; inf. desisse, to cease, stop, desist; end, leave off, close, ending (in + acc.), close]; see ‘ending in;’

desinere: present active infinitive, to end, stop, cease;

- omne bellum sumi facile, ceterum aegerrume desinere, every war is easily begun, otherwise most difficult to end.

- costa sub apice desinente, with the costa ending below the apex.

- siliqua valvis apice in cornua subconica compressa desinentibus (B&H), the silique with valves at the apex, ending in a compressed, nearly conic horn.

- arbores, trunco in comam palmiformem desinente (B&H), trees, with the trunk ending in a palm-shaped foliage [i.e. coma or canopy].

- calycis lacinia superior basi in foveolam nectariferam nec in tubum desinens (DeCandolle), the upper lacinia of the calyx at the base ending in a nectar-bearing pit, not in a tube.

- [Medeola] Germina tria, corniculata, in stylos desinentia (Linn.), ovaries three, corniculate, ending in the styles.

- Cal. 5-partitus, lacinia suprema desinente in calcar seu tubulum nectariferum tenuem secus pedunculum decurrentem et huic adnatum (DeCandolle), calyx 5-parted, with the uppermost lacinia ending in a nectar-bearing spur or tubule, thin, running down along the peduncle and with this adnate.

- ovarium in stylum brevissimum v. longiorem subulatum desinens (B&H), ovary ending in a very short style or longer, subulate.

- stylus in stigma clavato-ligulatum desinens (B&H), style ending in a clavate-ligulate stigma.

- Ovarium in stylum brevissimum v. longiorem subulatum desinens (B&H), ovary ending in a very short style or longer [style] subulate.

- pedunculi in cirros simplices v. modo foliorum divisos desinentes (B&H), the peduncles ending in simple [unbranched] tendrils or only divided [tendrils] of the leaves.

- discus inter stamina et ovarium saepe praesens, tumidus v. cupularis, lobatus v. partitus, interdum in staminodia glandulasve cum staminibus alternantes desinens(B&H), the disc ofted present among the stamens and ovaries, tumid or cupular, lobed or divided, sometimes ending in staminodia or glandules alternating with the stamens.

- lobi in cellulas non elongatas desinentes, lobes ending in non elongate cells.

- in rostrum breve sensim desinentes, into a short beak gradually ending.

- folia in apicem desinentia, leaves ending in the apex.

- sepala de roseo in colorem purpureum desinentia, sepals ending from rosey into the color purple. Note 'colore' after 'de' is understood.

- folium primo velutinum ad glabrum desinens, leaf at first velvety ending glabrous.
