A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Emargination, emarginature, notch: emarginatura,-ae (s.f.I), “having a notch at the end, as if a piece had been taken out” (Lindley); “the notch at the apex of an emarginate leaf” (Jackson); incisura,-ae (s.f.I) abl.sg. incisura; sinus,-us (s.m.IV), abl.sg. sinu; see notch;

- gluma e sinu brevi-aristata, glume from the notch short-awned.

- cotyledones magnae, planae, radiculam superam in emarginatura báseos foventes(B&H), the cotyledons large, flat, enfolding the the superior radicle in an emargination of the base.

- embryonis radícula recta v. rarius leviter obliqua, intra cotyledonum emarginaturam inclusa v. breviter exserta (B&H), the radicle of the embryo straight or more rarely lightly oblique, included within the emarginature [i.e. notch] of the cotyledons or shortly exserted.

- putamine ruguloso biloculari ovato 1-2-spermo leviter compresso margine subcarinato, emarginatura apicis bidentata (F. Mueller), with the putamen with little wrinkles, bilocular, 1-2-seeded, slightly compressed, with the margin somewhat keeled, with the notch of the apex bidentate [i.e. with two teeth].
