excurrent, running out beyond a point, such as an apex, e.g. mainstem of a conifer, veins of a leaf, midrib of a moss leaf; “running out; as when a stem remains always central, all the other parts being regularly disposed round it; as the stem of a Fir tree” [Abies] (Lindley); “running out, as a nerve of a leaf projecting beyond the margin” (Fernald 1950) excurrens,-entis (part.B)[> L. excurro,-cucurri,-cursum, 3: to run out, hasten forth; show itself; to run out, to project out]; cf. percurrent,‘extending the whole length of an organ but not continued beyond it; extending to the apex;’ cf. subpercurrent, ‘extending to just below the apex, as in the costa or midnerve of a moss;’ cf.procurrent, transcurrent;

excurrit: third-person singular present active indicative; [he/she] it extends, projects, runs out or beyond;

- adultior caulis frutescens evadit, radiculis tamen arboris cujusdam trunco adherens, ad cacumen saepe excurrit (Swartz), when more mature, the stem becomes shrubby, with rootlets, however, adhering to the trunk of the same tree, it often runs out to the canopy [i.e. the treetop].

- folia costa percurrente vel breviter excurrente, leaves with midrib percurrent or shortly excurrent (Stearn).

- segmentis extrorsum secus paginas excurrentibus numerosioribus, with the segments externally excurrent along the surface more numerous.

- costa in apiculum validum acutum laevem rubrum excurrens, costa excurrent into an apiculus robust sharp smooth red.

- costa breviter in apiculum acutum e cellula unica laevi excurrens, costa shortly excurrent into a sharp apiculus composed of a single smooth cell.

- costa utroque latere levi sinu in margines excurrens (Steph.), the costa on each side excurrent at the margines into a smooth sinus.

- connectivo saepissime excurrente (B&H), with the connective most often excurrent.

- petiolo saepe excurrente folióla progerente (B&H), with the petiole often running out beyond, bearing the leaflets in front.

- foliolorum venulis saepissime in denticulos excurrentibus (B&H), with the veinlets of the leaflets very oftenly excurrent into toothlets.

- pedicelli secus rhachin fasciculati v. gemini v. 2-flori, v. secus fasciculorum rhachin in ramulum excurrentem (B&H), the pedicels along the rhachis excurrent into branchlets fasciculate or paired or 2-flowered, or along the rhachis.
