falcatus,-a,-um (adj.A), falcarius,-a,-um (adj.A), falcatorius,-a,-um (adj.A), falciformis,-e (adj.B): falcate, sickle-shaped, curved as the blade of a sickle or scythe; “plane and curved, with parallel edges, like the blade of a reaper’s sickle; as the pod of Medicago falcata: any degree of curvature, with parallel edges, receives this name” (Lindley); “curved and flat, tapering gradually” (Fernald 1950) = drepaniformis,-e (adj.B), q.v.: drepaniform, shaped like a sickle; “falcate” (Crozier)” (Jackson) [> L. falx, gen.sg. falcis (s.f.III), a sickle, reaping- or pruning-hook, scythe]; = drepaniformis,-e (adj.B), q.v.; see hooked, sickle-shaped, curved;

- folia alterna, impari-pinnata, foliolis oo-jugis falcatis integerrimis coriaceis (B&H), the leaves alternate, impari-pinnate (pinnate with an odd terminal leaflet), with the leaflets in indefinite pairs, falcate, very entire, leathery.

- foliolis multijugis suboppositis v. alternis falcato-lanceolatis (B&H), with the leaflets many-paired, subopposite or alternate, falcate-lanceolate.

- samara subfalcata, the samara somewhat falcate.

- ovula falcata, uncinata, prope apicem loculi pendula, funículo crasso curvo (B&H), the ovules sickle-shaped, hooked, near the apex of the locule, pendulous, with the funiculus thick, curved.

Muell.), the name compounded of a Greek compound from the words drepanE, ‘falx = sickle’ and phyllon (due to the falciform [i.e. sickle-shaped leaves]. dielfalcatus,-a,-um (adj.A): a combination of the fern genus name Diellia + its epithet falcata [= Diellia falcata Brack.]. Asplenium dielfalcatum Viane, the Sickle Island Spleenwort; native to Oahu, Hawaii; syn Diellia erecta var. falcata; Diellia falcata Brack. Abies falcata; Abutilon falcatum.
