A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
imparipinnate, odd-pinnate, unequally pinnate; “when the petiole of a pinnate leaf is terminated by a single leaflet” (Lindley); “pinnate with an odd terminal leaflet” (Fernald 1950): imparipinnatus,-a,-um (adj.A); see pinnatus,-a,-um (adj.A);

- folia bipinnata, rarissime imparipinnata (B&H), leaves twice-pinnate, very rarely odd-pinnate.

- folia alterna, impari-pinnata, foliolis oo-jugis falcatis integerrimis coriaceis (B&H), the leaves alternate, impari-pinnate (pinnate with an odd terminal leaflet), with the leaflets in indefinite pairs, falcate, very entire, leathery.

- folia pinnata absque impari (Swartz), the leaves pinnate except unequal [=abl.sg.].

- folióla numerosa, petiolata, opposita, plerumque 6-juga cum terminali impari (Swartz), the leaflets numerous, petiolate, opposite, usually 6-paired with the terminal [one] unequal [i.e. not in a pair].

- folia petioiata, pinnata sine impari (Swartz), the leaves petiolate, pinnate, lacking an [unequal or uneven] one [i.e. paripinnate].

- foliis impari-pinnatis bi-usque quadri-jugis (F. Mueller), with the leaves unequal-pinnate, bi- to quadri-jugate [i.e. 2-4-paired].

- folióla pleraque 2-5 poll. longa cum vel absque impari (F. Mueller), the leaflets usually 2-5 pollicaria [i.e. 2-5 inches] long with or without an unequal one.

- foliis impari-pinnatis altérnis 1-4-jugis, (F. Mueller), with the leaves unequal-pinnate, alternate, 1-4-paired.

- [foliis impari-pinnatis] foliis 4-5-jugis cum impari (DeCandolle), [with the leaves unequal-pinnate] with the leaves in 4-5 pairs, with an unequal one.

- folia pinnatisecta cum impari (DeCandolle, the leaves pinnatisect [i.e. cleft nearly to the midrib], with [one] unequal.

- folia pinnatisecta, segmentis lobatis glabris, impari majoribus (DeCandolle), the leaves pinnatisect, with the segments lobed, glabrous, larger than the unequal one.

NOTE: paripinnate “when when the petiole of a pinnate leaf is terminated by neither leaflet nor tendril” (Lindley): paripinnatus,-a,-um (adj.A), q.v.
