Intestine, a portion or all of the alimentary canal functioning in digestion: intestinum,-i (s.n.II), abl. sg. intestino [> L. intestinus,-a,-um(adj.A) ‘internal’ > intus (adv./prep.) within]; see -enteron, -entery: in Gk. comp, > Gk. enteron,-i (s.n.II), intestine; see mesentery; see proctodaeum,-i (s.n.II); see rectum;

Crassum est & breve, solidum seu non cavum, varie sinuosum, intestinorum & mesenterii gyros referens, substantiæ durioris gelatinosæ, instar cartilaginis vel tendinis diu decocti (Dill.), it is thick and short, solid or not hollow, variously sinuose, calling to mind [i.e. resembling] the convolutions of the intestines and mesentery, the gyres [i.e. convolutions], of a harder gelatinous substance, resembling cartilage or tendon when cooked down for a long time.
