Island, isle: insula,-ae (s.f.I), abl. sg. insula, nom. pl. insulae, gen. pl. insularum, dat. & abl. pl. insulis;

NOTE: The following list derives from Stearn (1983). Note that in most cases the adjective and sometimes the noun in the genitive preceeds the noun - perhaps this is merely a convention of list-making as in prose the adjectives usually follow the noun. It is not consistent with other nouns (such as Mare) throughout Stearn’s list:

Ascensionis Insula, Ascension Island, ‘ascensionis’ is gen. sg.

Caesarea Insula: the island Jersey (Jersea,-ae (s.f.I), of the Channel

Islands of Britain.

Ebudae Insulae: the Hebrides, western Scotland, the ‘islands’ of Ebuda.

Faeroenses Insulae: the Faeroes; both words are in the nom. plural.

Fortunatae Insulae: Canary Islands, both words in nom. pl.

Guadalupa Insula, Guadeloupe (island).

Exception: Insulae Capitis Viridis, the islands of the green cape (head), Cape Verde Islands.
