A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
liss-, lisso-: in Gk. comp. ‘smooth’ [> Gk. lissos,-E,-on (adj.) ‘smooth; lissas,-ados is a “peculiar feminine of lissos, ‘smooth.’” (Liddell & Scott); see smooth;

- lissantherum, with smooth anther; lissanthus, smooth-flowered; lissolepidus, with smooth or flat scales; lissorhizus, with smooth roots; lissosporus, with smooth spores.

- lissocarpus, with smooth fruit (Stearn 1996).

- lissoglaucus, smooth and glaucous.

Lissanthe. From lissos, smooth, and anthos, a flower (Paxton);

Lissochilus. From lissos, smooth, and cheilos,a lip ; in allusion to the lip of the flower. (Paxton). Orchidaceae.
