A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

Merda,-ae (s.f.I), abl. sg. merda: ordure, excrement, dung; syn. fimus,-i (s.m.II), stercus,-oris (s.n.III); related to muscerda,-ae (s.f.I), mouse dung and succerda,-ae (s.f.I), the dung of swine; see dung;

- in succerda locis humidis umbrosis jacente, et quidem tempore etiam sereno ac siccissimo , non infrequens coagminatus nidulatur: parcior in in merda humana (S&A), not infrequently nestled stuck together on swine dung cast down in moist, shaded places, and in fact even in weather fair and also very dry: more sparingly on human excrement.

- [Epichysium argenteum; fungus] Nitore tandem amisso totus fungillus subfuscescit: bis inventus in stercoratis, sparsim crescens, merdae vetustae putri (suillae, ut videbatur) immersus (S&A), when finally the glossiness has been lost the entire fungillus grows almost brownish-black: discovered twice in manured [i.e. places, e.g. fields] sparsely growing, immersed in old rotten dung (of pigs, it seemed).

- [fungi] pervulgata species in fimo vaccino pratensi sylvaticoque, per omne anni tempus: rarior incolit merdam humanam (S&A), a very common species in cow dung in meadows and sylvan places, throughout the whole time of the year: more rarely it dwells on human excrement.

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
