- herbae pleraeque annuae, nunquam setulis bipartitis appressis canae (B&H), herbs, very many of them annual, never gray with appressed, bipartite [i.e. divided almost to the base into two parts] little bristles.

- semina, testa nunquam mucosa, saepe albumine tenui donata (B&H), seeds never provided with a mucose seedcoat, often with a thin albumen.

- flores albi, purpurei v. violacei, nunquam? flavi (B&H), the flowers white, purple or violaceous, [perhaps] never yellow.

- loculis rimi lorigitudinali saepius dehiscentibus, introrsis lateralibusve nunquam extrorsis (DeCandolle), with the locules [of the anther] more often dehiscent by a longitudinal fissure, facing inward or to the side, never facing outward.

- [Umbelliferae] bracteae intra umbellas v. capitulum, sub radiis interioribus nunquam (nisi intra capitulum Eryngii) obviae (B&H), bracts within the umbels or capitulum, under the inner rays are never (except within the capitulum of Eryngium) encountered.

- nunquam vidimus (ut in Eng. Bot. aliisque locis depictae v. descriptae sunt) vittas sub valleculis 2-3-nas, nec (ut in Ledeb. Fl. Ross. descriptae) approximatas, unicam simulantibus (B&H), we have never seen (as described and depicted in Eng. Bot. and other places) the vittae under the valleculae 2-3-together [in groups of 2 or 3], neither (as described in Ledeb. Fl. Ross.) near together, resembling a single one.

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
