Ocher, or ochre (Eng.nouns): “1. An earthy usu. Red or yellow and often impure iron ore that is extensively used as a pigment; also, an of various ferruginous clays; with the color of ocher, esp. of yellow ocher: ocher yellow. 3. Any of various chiefly yellow to orange pigments prepared from the natural ochers …” (WIII): ochra,-ae (s.f.I), “yellow ochre (used as a pigment, etc.)” (Glare) [> Gk. Ochra, yellow ocher(Liddell & Scott)].

NOTE: the noun may be used in either Greek or Latin compounds as it is a noun in either language, but most compound used only Greek word elements.

NOTE: the ‘ch’ is never reduced to a ‘c’ in compounds as it represents the Greek ‘chi.’

Ochre (RC 313) (in fungi) “from between Warm Buff and Antimony Yellow to Ochraceous Orange (R XV)” (S&D).

Ochre Red (in fungi) (RC 101). Not R XXVII, but Coral Red to Dragon’s-Blood Red (R XI II)” (S&D)

Sil, gen.sg. silis (s.n.III), abl. sg. sile: “a kind of yellowish earth, yellow ochre” (Lewis & Short)].

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
