A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
opuntiformis,-e (adj.B): resembling a prickly pear (Opuntia); (as cactiformis,-e (adj.B), “applied to succulent stems like those of cacti, and of Euphorbia” (Jackson); = opuntioideus,-a,-um (adj.A); see cactiformis,-e (adj.B); see tuniformis,-e (adj.B).

The anterior part of the cephalopodium in Marchantia (a liverwort) has epidermal orifices which serve as canals to small air-cavities, which are lined in the interior with rows of opuntiform cells.

Cactus cell: “photosynthetic, “opuntia-like” -appearing cells in the air chambers of certain complex thalloid liverworts (Marchantiales)” (Magill 1990): cellula cactiformis (adj.B); cellula opuntioides, opuntoidea or opuntiformis.
